TANGOARGENTINO&CONTACTIMPROVISATION

Adriana Pegorer is interested in fragmenting the 'verticality'
 and  the 'lead
& follow' traditional of Tango Argentino by
 using the spiralling dynamics
and  sharing of weight of  Contact
 Improvisation.

@ London Contact Improvisation      saturday 7th July 2007

  Led by Javier Cura (Argentina/Italy)

Tango and Contact Improvisation:
We will bring together elements of each dance to
create a richer and liberating form of physical
expression.
The objective is to reach to an improvised dance
with clarity of form and at the same time, free and
instintive in it’s expression.
There is no need to have any experience in both
techniques.

'The Obvious Invisibile'

We can imagine movement as a dynamic combination of centripetal and centrifugal forces. Physically and emotionally perceiving this forces can help us re-attain a lost animal harmony, and create within us a fluid state of constant metamorphosis. We will share this experience in trios, duos and solos. Taking advantage of this underlying principle and using some elements of martial arts, tango and/or physical theatre we will enrich our Contact Improvisation dance till it trascends its given form.

Javier Cura is an argentine american multidisciplinary artist. He has dedicated himself to the Fine Arts creating several art exhibitions of objects, sculptures and instalations. He has performed, directed and created drama shows in Argentina, Colombia, USA, Italy and Indonesia. He’s been teaching drama, physical theatre and Contact Impro in England, Italy, France, Germany and Argentina. He’s been invited to teach and perform in the International Contact Improvisation Festivals in Orvieto(It) and Freiburg (Ger). His last piece that merges tango and contactimpro in a physicaltheatre context was presented in Prague’s Dance Theatre “Farma Festival”. He currently directs the physical theatre group "Teatro Terra di Nessuno" in Italy.

What is Contact Improvisation?

Contact Improvisation is a dance form in which the point of contact with another dancer provides the starting point for a movement exploration. It is most frequently performed as a duet, but can be danced by more people. The emphasis is on the flow of energy and on an awareness of one’s own body and that of one’s partner rather than producing body lines and shapes. Contact Improvisation invites creative thinking and spontaneity as well as technical ability. Emphasis may be on the opening and attuning the senses or on finding ways to move fluidly and efficiently. Fundamental skills such as sharing the weight, rolling, lifting and falling are usually taught.  Each teacher has a different approach, drawing from different disciplines and studies (i.e: BodyMindCentering, Laban Movement Analysis, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Method, Capoeira, Thai Chi, Skinner Releasing Technique, Biology, Ki-Aikido, Shiatsu, Zen Meditation and many more).
